A Canoe Comes to Life

Many hours of hard work are paying off. This outrigger canoe, its design gifted to Alcatraz Canoe Journey by Kiko Kitagawa-Johnson, was built at Waterside Workshops in Berkeley, CA. Expert boat builders guided local Indigenous youth who worked collaboratively to build their own bay-worthy canoe.
